It was the Sac and Fox Nation in Indian Territory until the Land Run of 1891.
Once part of the Sac and Fox Nation, Prague was settled primarily by Czechs during the Land Run of 1891 and was named after the capital of Czechoslovakia – but with different pronunciation. The railroad helped Prague grow rapidly, with cotton as its most important crop. Famed Oklahoma athlete and Olympic Gold Medalist Jim Thorpe was born near Prague. Today Prague is home to the National Shrine of the Infant Jesus of Prague and hosts an annual Kolache Festival the first Saturday of each May.
