In 1904, a new rail line extended from Guthrie to El Reno through the heart of modern-day Piedmont. This, combined with surrounding fertile farmland and a thriving agricultural community, helped early Piedmont flourish. In the 1970s, many families working in Oklahoma City sought out a quieter, more rural life, and began relocating to nearby towns like Piedmont. This led to a population boom.
