A Force For Change

The American civil rights movement is most associated with the Deep South, but some of the first pivotal moments and pioneers were right here in Oklahoma City. Known as the "mother of the Oklahoma civil rights movement," Clara Luper led the earliest sit-ins in the state and some of the first in the country. On the 62nd anniversary of this historic moment and movement, LoyalTV takes a look back at how her efforts led to city ordinances ending racial discrimination even before the monumental Civil Rights Act of 1964.
