Welcome to Frederick
The story of Frederick begins with two towns, Gosnell and Hazel. The people of Gosnell made an agreement with an agent of the railroad company to rename their town after the son of a railroad director in exchange for routing the rail through town, and Frederick was born. Citizens in Hazel decided to support the newly minted town of Frederick after the name was changed. In 1905 after a Rough Rider reunion in Frederick, President Teddy Roosevelt joined famed wolf hunter, John Abernathy, for a wolf hunt in the Big Pasture. Afterward, Roosevelt promised to make Oklahoma a state.
